There's usually something going on, but events near Barren River Lake are spread across small towns, theaters, ballparks and the lake itself, and no single calendar lists them all. This guide explains where to look: the venues that host regular shows, the organizations that run lake events, and the seasonal happenings worth planning around. Use it to build your own calendar before you come.

Scottsville KY events and the Chamber calendar

For Scottsville KY events, start with the Scottsville-Allen County Chamber of Commerce's tourism site, scottsvilleky.info. Downtown Scottsville's historic district around the courthouse square hosts community events through the year, and Dugas Park on historic Dumont Hill has an outdoor amphitheater along with its trails and playgrounds. Downtown event calendar. Dugas Park local visitor listing.

Glasgow has its own calendar through the Glasgow-Barren County Chamber, and the restored Plaza Theatre on the Glasgow square hosts concerts and shows. Official Glasgow downtown guide.

Bowling Green events: theaters, music and sports

Bowling Green events cover the widest range. These venues post their own schedules:

  • SKyPAC, the Southern Kentucky Performing Arts Center: Broadway tours, orchestra and concerts.

  • The Capitol Arts Center: a restored Art Deco theater with concerts, films and community arts. The Capitol’s official calendar.

  • Public Theatre of Kentucky: plays and musicals. Public Theatre’s official schedule.

  • Bowling Green Ballpark: home games for the Bowling Green Hot Rods, the city's minor-league baseball team.

  • Western Kentucky University: Hilltoppers basketball at E.A. Diddle Arena and football at L.T. Smith Stadium. WKU Athletics schedules.

A Hot Rods game makes an easy family evening in season. Check the team's schedule before you go.

Events on the lake

The lake has its own event calendar. The Port Oliver Yacht Club hosts regattas, social events and sailing activities on Barren River Lake. The Port Oliver Recreation Area near the dam has an amphitheater, a playground and a picnic shelter; the Corps' Barren River Lake project office, (270) 646-2055, handles amphitheater and shelter reservations. USACE recreation and project contact information. Yacht-club race and event information.

Barren River Lake fishing tournaments

Barren River Lake fishing tournaments are some of the most regular events on the water. The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources runs an online tournament schedule where organizers list their events, which makes it the best single place to see what's coming. Tournament days bring heavy traffic at ramps like Port Oliver, so if you're launching for fun, plan around the morning takeoff and the afternoon weigh-in. Our Fishing & Tournaments category covers the rules and the lake in more detail.

Kentucky fall festivals and seasonal happenings

Fall events vary from year to year. Check current town and chamber calendars for harvest gatherings, festivals and holiday shows. If you are interested in a farm demonstration, confirm the date and public access with the operator before making the drive. Current downtown calendar.

How to build your own events calendar

  • Bookmark the Scottsville-Allen County and Glasgow-Barren County chamber sites.

  • Follow the venues you care about, such as SKyPAC, the Capitol, the Plaza Theatre and the Hot Rods.

  • Check the KDFWR tournament schedule before a weekend on the lake.

  • Confirm dates and tickets directly with the organizer; event details change and third-party listings can be out of date.

Our Fishing Tournaments & Events page has more on lake events, and this category will highlight specific events as dates are announced.
