Anglers planning trips to Barren River Lake should check both statewide rules and the lake’s special regulations. This summary uses the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources’ 2026–27 Fishing & Boating Guide, updated September 2026. It is a regulations and stocking-reference guide, not confirmation of a newly announced stocking event. Current KDFWR guide.

Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass

Barren River Lake has a 15-inch minimum for largemouth and smallmouth bass. The statewide black-bass daily limit is six total, singly or combined across the covered black-bass species, including spotted bass. Spotted bass have no minimum size limit here; they do not provide a separate six-fish allowance. KDFWR statewide and special limits.

Crappie

White and black crappie must be at least 10 inches long on Barren River Lake. The statewide daily limit is 20 crappie, singly or combined. KDFWR lake regulations.

Hybrid Striped Bass

White bass and hybrid striped bass share a daily limit of 15 fish, with no more than five longer than 15 inches. KDFWR lists Barren River Lake among waters stocked with hybrid striped bass. That confirms the program, not a particular recent stocking date, quantity or immediate improvement in catches. KDFWR statewide limits. KDFWR hybrid striped bass information.

Other Relevant Notes

Walleye in the Barren River system, including the lake, have a two-fish daily limit and an 18- to 26-inch protective slot; release fish within that slot immediately. On Barren River Lake, blue and channel catfish share a 15-fish daily limit, with only one longer than 25 inches. Check separate rules for nontraditional fishing methods. Anglers 16 and older generally need a Kentucky fishing license unless exempt. KDFWR special regulations and license exemptions.

Always verify the latest regulations directly with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources before fishing, as rules can be updated. The special regulations for Barren River Lake are designed to support the fishery while allowing reasonable harvest. For RV travelers fishing from the Allen County side or nearby public access points, these limits apply the same as anywhere else on the lake.
