The park is across the road from the lake, not waterfront or lakefront. Public lake access and marina facilities operate separately. No opening date or reservation availability is announced here.

The Resort at Barren River Lake is a planned pet-friendly resort and RV park in South Central Kentucky, set on more than 60 acres of rolling hills and mature hardwood trees near Barren River Lake. It isn't open yet. This post covers what's planned for the property, what the surrounding area adds, and how to get on our waiting list. It's also the starting point for our Resort News category, where we'll post updates as plans are confirmed. Resort property and planned-amenity information.

What's on the 60 acres at the resort at Barren River Lake

The land is the main feature. Gently rolling hills, mature hardwoods and wide-open green space make up most of the property, and the plan is to set the amenities around that landscape instead of on top of it. Here's what's planned for guests:

  • Walking trails through the trees and open ground

  • Picnic areas with barbecue grills

  • Fire pits for evenings outside

  • Playgrounds for kids

  • A dedicated dog park, plus walking areas for pets

  • Open green space for games, reading, or doing nothing at all

Biking is part of the picture too. The roads and nearby trails around the lake run through wooded hills and farmland, and the Twisted Oliver Trail at Port Oliver, a mountain-bike trail network developed by the Southwest Kentucky Mountain Bike Association in partnership with the Corps of Engineers, is close by. Trail builder’s route and difficulty information.

A pet-friendly resort in Kentucky

The Resort at Barren River Lake is being planned as a pet-friendly RV property. Before any future booking, confirm the pet policy and whether a dog park or walking areas have been completed and opened. Proposed amenities are not available to visitors while the resort remains under construction.

Barren River Lake lodging with the lake close by

Barren River Lake is a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reservoir that covers about 10,000 acres at normal summer pool. It's used for boating, fishing, kayaking, paddleboarding and swimming. Four marinas serve the lake: Barren River State Dock, Peninsula Marina, Walnut Creek Marina and The Narrows Marina. Public ramps, including the paved multi-lane ramp at Port Oliver near the dam, make it simple to launch your own boat. State Dock services.

Barren River Lake State Resort Park is a separate Kentucky State Parks property. Check its current renovation and service notices before planning a visit. The state park has reported lodge, cottage and dining closures; do not assume those facilities or horseback rides are operating. Kentucky State Parks improvement and closure notices.

Food, shopping and day trips from the Barren River Lake RV park

The property is a short drive from local dining across Barren, Allen and Warren counties, from hometown diners and barbecue to Southern cooking and steakhouses in Glasgow, Scottsville and Bowling Green. Those three towns are also where you'll find groceries, fuel and supplies.

Farther out, Mammoth Cave National Park, the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, and the Amish and Mennonite markets along Perrytown Road in Allen County all make good day plans. Each has its own category on this blog.

Good to know before a South Central Kentucky lake vacation

  • Lake levels change by season. The Corps holds the lake at summer pool through the warm months and lowers it to winter pool in the fall, which affects ramps and shoreline access.

  • Anglers 16 and older generally need a Kentucky fishing license unless exempt. Licenses, including 1-day options and a 7-day nonresident license, are sold through the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources.

  • Some lake businesses are seasonal. Walnut Creek Marina operates seasonally, while The Narrows Marina is open year-round.

  • Horseback-ride availability at the state resort park must be confirmed directly; no operating schedule is established here. Kentucky fishing-license requirements and exemptions. Marina seasonal-service information.

Our idea of a good day here is simple: coffee outside, a morning on the water, lunch in town, a walk with the dog, and a fire after dark. We're planning The Resort to make that kind of trip easy, whether you come for a weekend or stay longer in an RV.
